OUR PROJECTS
Advancing the future of Green Hydrogen production, storage, transportation and application.
OFGEM STRATEGIC INNOVATION FUND
In partnership with Wales and West Utilities, National Grid and Welsh Water
HydroStar is partnered with WWU through the Ofgem SIF fund to develop hydrogen systems which reducing the operational barriers to wide-scale Green Hydrogen usage, delivering low-cost solutions to the UK economy.
NextGen membraneless electrolysers are being developed, able to use waste water to dramatically reduce the water burden of Green Hydrogen production and flexibly match to renewables.
INNOVATE UK SMART GRANT
In partnership with London South Bank University
Developing metal hydride technologies to deliver highly pressurised H2 to hydrogen refuelling stations, removing mechanical compression.
The characteristics of metal hydrides will chemically compress H2, without the need for a mechanical compressor. The metal hydrides provide long-term H2 storage with 100% retention, unlike conventional storage containers.
HYDROGEN SUPPLY CHAIN COLLABORATIVE R&D
In partnership with London South Bank University
Using a sophisticated heat recovery system and the internal characteristics of metal hydride alloys to provide a multi-stage transportation system for highly compressed H2, reducing overall energy consumption of H2 transportation by up to 35%.
CMDC Round 4 - Feasibility studies & pre-deployment trials
In partnership with Waterwhelm & London South Bank University
The project aims to address the challenges faced by port operators in providing multiple low carbon fuel options to ships, accommodating varying operational requirements such as voyage duration and cargo specifications. Delivery of rapid hydrogen refuelling and electrical charging is achieved through a hybrid metal hydride, fuel-cell and battery system.

Durham Testing LAB
UK / N.E. England
Pre-commercialisation testing of NextGen electrolysis units takes place at HydroStar's Durham labs, in collaboration with gas testing at Durham and Cardiff Universities.
The labs allow for direct integration with renewable technologies to develop sophisticated and flexible control systems, whilst trialling multiple wastewater sources.
